Importing process from neighbouring states to South Africa
- Dried salted hides and horns are either collected by or delivered to a taxidermist, or Dip & Pack exporting Agent, or simply an Exporting Agent in the country of export.
- The Exporter may or may not do the Dip & Pack, but it is required before exporting.
- Exporter applies for export permits.
- TTS requires Hunter’s Authority to apply for the import and handling of trophies, which is asked for along with the South African (SA) importing costs.
- Upon receipt of the Hunter’s authority, PLUS the export permits (from the country where trophies are being exported), the SA Veterinary import permit application is submitted.
- SA Import permits take 2-4 weeks.
- Based on import costs having been paid, plus the approval of the import permit, the Exporter is told to proceed (Air or by road to SA).
- When EXPORT customs clearance has been finalized and trophies are on route to SA, TTS arranges SA customs import clearance on the date of arrival into Joburg.
- South African Importer will book an inspection date with an Inspector from the Nature conservation and Veterinary department to obtain the necessary red cross permit which allows us to transport the trophies in a sealed vehicle to our appointed taxidermist.
- If being processed / mounted by a TTS or other taxidermist, the taxidermist books a date with an inspector in their area to oversee offloading of the trophies, ensuring no tampering with the seals.
- The taxidermy process of your mounts then begins.
